About Us
Southwest Glen Mission (SGM), is a 501(C)(3) Non-Profit Organization, providing homework assistance and tutoring for inner-city youth at multi-housing complexes. Many of these youths are 5 to 18 years old and are at-risk minority children living in single-parent homes. Education programs, counseling, and referral services are available to these youths and their parents.
Through our program, we provide:
- Homework/Educational assistance
- Literacy Assistance through ‘English as a Second Language’ (ESL) training
- Children’s Reading Library
- WAM (“What About Me”) – health and wellness program for adolescents
- Nutritious snacks
- “STEM” ( (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Program
Alongside volunteers and our board of directors, Southwest Glen Mission has been able to help change the lives of under-served children where they live. With aid from our supporters, the organization reaches an estimated 2000 children annually. The purpose of this mission is to encourage children and their families, to engage with each other educationally and socially. Southwest Glen Mission is an all-inclusive Non-Profit Organization.
Changes due to SGM involvement:
- The program participant’s grades have improved
- Juvenile criminal activity has been reduced
- Gang-related activities at the complex have decreased
Our overall goal is to have each apartment resident understand their purpose through sharing commonalities and their own life experiences.
